Submissions
OPEN CALL FOR PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS:
Anyone is invited to submit an Ode to a Tree of the Public Garden. Selected submissions will be incorporated into the Future Monument to Trees of the Public Garden.
The spirit of the submission is to create an Ode to the Tree that can be used in a future monument. Perhaps such a monument will be unveiled 100 years from now, when only the most long-living trees will still be around. Make your Ode for the ages, in other words.
The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture's public art initiative Un-MONUMENT provides our leading questions:
What is a monument? Who do we choose to memorialize? How can our public spaces reflect what is important to us?
DIRECTIONS:
(1) Please choose a tree in the Public Garden that inspires you.
(2) Craft your Ode to the tree. This can be in the form of a poem, a picture, a letter, a creative gesture. Limit 300 words.
(3) Upload your Ode using the form on this page. Please include a picture if possible. Also mark the Tree Name and GIS code found on the sign on the tree. See the Tree List below for assistance, which is courtesy the Friends of the Public Garden. You can upload multiple files.
(4) Please include your email.
