Future Monument to the Trees of the Public Garden
Kate Farrington’s “Future Monument to the Trees of the Public Garden” is a Socially-Engaged Art project for Year One of “Un-monument | Re-monument | De-monument: Transforming Boston,” a multi-year public art initiative sponsored by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and supported by a grant from the Mellon Foundation. The project draws upon place-as-medium and shared authorship to consider the value of the natural world in our public monument landscape. Odes to the magnificent trees of the Boston Public Garden, penned by members of the public, are collected and shared through a series of public workshops culminating in an Augmented Reality (AR)-enhanced walking tour of the trees of the Boston Public Garden on November 9 - 11, 2024.
